Emily Hickey

Dr. Hickey

Associate Veterinarian

From a very young age, Dr. Hickey had a fascination with science – specifically biology – and medicine. She also happened to love animals. By becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Hickey has been able to combine these lifelong interests and end up in a very fulfilling career. She especially appreciates the opportunity her profession affords to make a positive difference in the community – something that’s very important to her!

Dr. Hickey earned her honours undergraduate degree in Biological Science from the University of Guelph and then went on to obtain her DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2014. She spent the first several years of her career working at a small animal practice in Stoney Creek, Ontario before joining Fairview Drive in 2021. Dr. Hickey commutes from the Niagara region but working with such an excellent team and being able to continue practicing high quality medicine has made the drive well worth it!

Clinically, Dr. Hickey likes solving challenging cases and enjoys communicating with and educating owners about their pet’s health and wellbeing. She could spend hours discussing preventive medicine with clients as there is so much that can be done to keep our pets healthy for as long as possible. Dr. Hickey is also passionate about palliative and end-of-life care and feels honoured to be able to support and guide clients and their beloved pets during their most difficult times.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Hickey lives with her partner and fiancé, Dan, and their senior German Shepherd, Diesel. In her spare time, Dr. Hickey enjoys taking Diesel for hikes – especially while on their annual cottage trip to the Algonquin region in the fall (the leaves are beautiful!). A self-professed “homebody”, Dr. Hickey also enjoys watching movies and has quite an impressive collection at home. She’s particularly a fan of thrillers and horror movies.

Dr. Tommasini

Dr. Tommasini

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Matt Tommasini grew up in Rhode Island with an Italian father, Irish American mother, twin sister, dog and cat. A true outdoorsman, surfing, climbing, soccer, and nature were his main driving forces throughout his youth. As he grew older, Matt discovered a passion for animals – especially wildlife and exotics. This, combined with his love of puzzle solving, made a career in veterinary medicine a natural choice!

While working towards his undergraduate degree, Matt interned as a zookeeper and was taken under the wing of a zoo veterinarian who inspired him to pursue a veterinary degree. For that, he attended Massey University in New Zealand, where he then worked as an emergency and wildlife vet. After seven years of studying, working in, and exploring New Zealand, Matt returned to North America with a rediscovered interest in the native wildlife, and an appreciation for companion animal medicine as a means of honing skills essential to the field.

Clinically, Matt has a special interest in exotic animal medicine. He also enjoys emergency medicine and neurology, as he works well under pressure and is fascinated by the neurological and behavioral mechanisms that are present throughout a wide range of species. He joined the Fairview Drive Pet Hospital team in October of 2023 and has quickly settled in as someone who is beloved by both his colleagues as well as his clients.

Outside of the clinic, Matt has one dog, Jackie, who is currently acclimating herself to the snow, which she had the ‘pleasure’ of experiencing for the first time recently. Matt’s favorite pastimes include surfing, climbing, mountain biking, and going on hikes and camping trips with Jackie. Most recently, the duo drove cross-country, hitting ten national parks and experiencing countless adventures along the way.

Dr. Mann

Dr. Mann

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Mann grew up in India on a farm with buffalo, goats and three dogs – Jacky, Shadow, and Don. Whenever one of the animals got sick or injured, the vet, who happened to be Dr. Mann’s uncle, would come out and treat them. Watching him work inspired Dr. Mann to follow in his footsteps and dedicate his life to helping animals in any way he could.

Dr. Mann attended veterinary school in Gadvasu, Ludhiana, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Upon graduation, he spent five years at a mixed practice before immigrating to Canada in 2016. In August of 2021, Dr. Mann obtained his DVM license and joined the Fairview Drive team in December of 2023. Clinically, Dr. Mann has a special interest in internal medicine, dermatology, and helping geriatric pets enjoy their golden years.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Mann is happily married to his wife, Gagan, who is a registered nurse. Together, they have a handsome young son named Joban. While they don’t currently have any pets, they do have plans to adopt a puppy in the near future. In what little spare time he has, Dr. Mann enjoys cooking, and watching action movies.

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
