Fairview Drive Pet Hospital Staff

Dr. Thomas Mulder, DVM

In 1990, Dr. Mulder embarked on an exciting career of veterinary medicine. After a year of busy mixed practice in eastern Ontario, he and his wife Nancy, outfitted their bicycles for Europe on a shoestring budget. Four months into their trip, they landed in the United Kingdom where Dr. Mulder obtained a position in a north London 24 hour veterinary practice. 'Medivet', as the practice is called, needed a night shift emergency veterinarian. Dr. Mulder was ready for the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the eight remaining months of the "European adventure" treating London's wide variety of pets.

On returning to Canada, Dr. Mulder continued in the emergency medicine field while practicing during the day in a practice in Oakville. He then secured a position with Waltham as veterinary nutritional consultant. The thorough and intensive training for the role as nutritional educator, highlighted the need for treating the 'whole' patient. With his experience in emergency medicine, nutrition and clinic management, and a dream to run a practice that did focus on the whole patient, he decided to open his own hospital.

In 1997, he started a small practice and in five years the practice quickly outgrew its location. Expansion was necessary! When the opportunity arose to purchase an existing facility (Fairview Drive Pet Hospital), steps were undertaken to merge the two practices. The centrally located Pet Hospital now has the space and resources to accommodate an expanding team in all aspects of veterinary medicine as well as Dr. Mulder's developing interests in dentistry for your pet.

Dr. Jennifer Farr, DVM

Born the oldest of 6 kids, Dr. Jennifer Farr spent most of her childhood in Niagara Falls. In 1996, she graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph where she was the youngest student in her class.

Upon graduation, she returned to her home town and worked in small animal practice at the Niagara Falls Animal Medical Centre for 11 years. She moved to the Brantford area in 2002 and looks forward to continuing to build great, long term relationships with her clients at Fairview Drive Pet Hospital.

Since beginning her profession in 1996 , Jennifer has enjoyed the challenge of staying abreast of new developments in veterinary medicine in order to remain current. Along with Dr. Mulder, she recently completed the Ontario Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Network Basic Skills course and exam. Jennifer plans to apply to the MNR for a provincial wildlife custodian authorization. With this certification, she would be allowed to legally care for and release injured or orphaned wild animals brought to the clinic.

When she is not working to keep your pets healthy, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband and very active young daughter and tending to her dog ( Echo a boxer cross), 2 cats (Autumn, and Chico), and Jack the rex rabbit. She is an avid long-distance runner and competes every fall in the Niagara Falls ½ marathon. Other hobbies include: pocket pets (she has a soft spot for rats and rabbits), dance, performing in musical theatre, traveling (especially to warmer destinations), and visiting friends and family.

- She is a very affectionate little lady, and if you leave a cat carrier open she will gladly climb in and lie down. She will also surprise you by jumping on your back while you are bent over to pick up something, and will wrap herself around your shoulders;

- She acts like a little mommy and if you put a kitten or a puppy in front of her, her motherly instincts kick in and she will clean them thoroughly.
