In 1990, Dr. Mulder embarked on an exciting career of veterinary medicine. After a year of busy mixed practice in eastern Ontario, he and his wife Nancy, outfitted their bicycles for Europe on a shoestring budget. Four months into their trip, they landed in the United Kingdom where Dr. Mulder obtained a position in a north London 24 hour veterinary practice. 'Medivet', as the practice is called, needed a night shift emergency veterinarian. Dr. Mulder was ready for the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the eight remaining months of the "European adventure" treating London's wide variety of pets.

On returning to Canada, Dr. Mulder continued in the emergency medicine field while practising during the day in a practice in Oakville. He then secured a position with Waltham as veterinary nutritional consultant. The thorough and intensive training for the role as nutritional educator, highlighted the need for treating the 'whole' patient. With his experience in emergency medicine, nutrition and clinic management, and a dream to run a practice that did focus on the whole patient, he decided to open his own hospital.

In 1997, he started a small practice and in five years the practice quickly outgrew its location. Expansion was necessary! When the opportunity arose to purchase an existing facility (Fairview Drive Pet Hospital), steps were undertaken to merge the two practices. The centrally located Pet Hospital now has the space and resources to accommodate an expanding team in all aspects of veterinary medicine as well as Dr. Mulder's developing interests in dentistry for your pet.
